Telling a story is a promise. By writing a book an author promises a cast of characters with a problem and a conclusion to that problem. The authors of this book chose not to deliver that, on purpose. These writers either do not know better, or worse, don't care. Or God forbid: they think abandoning a narrative is a very clever money-making scheme to force people to buy the next book.What's happened here is that these authors have taken a large story and divided it into multiple books. Let me be clear: the book literally ends in the middle of the narrative and you are directed to buy the next book. Let me be even more clear: it's not a serial where we can see what happens next to our wayward characters like, say, Twilight or Star Wars or any other successful sequenced story you've ever encountered. In a sequel we revisit troubled and beloved characters with new problems. This is not that. Instead, you're reading along and this book just stops . . .full stop.I could have handled the nutty vampire sex plot because it was an easy afternoon read. The subpar writing even blends together eventually, but to withhold story promises from the reader just makes people mad. I wouldn't even considering buying the second book because these authors lied to me once and I have no reason to believe they wouldn't do it again.You pay $3 for the first half of the story and another $5 for the next part (which may or may not be the conclusion to the whole story). I would have gladly paid $10 for an entire book with a beginning, a middle and an end! As it is, I'm stopping at $3 and not chancing another dime. While the premise intrigued me (Female MC saves her family and business by becoming a casino tycoon's companion for one month), and twist being is that he is an immortal vampire--not just any vamp, but an heir to the king of all vamps--the story fell a little short on promised romance, bad decision making from male MC, and the book being 60% fluff: "female MC is MINE" internal dialogue over and over. I ended up skimming over half the book because it kept looping back to the same thought process.This book definitely could've been just one installment instead of ending on a cliff hanger if most of the internal dialogue wasn't as repetitive. I also felt like there wasn't enough setup for the enemies of the male MC, other than the fact that they all want a virgin, which somehow secures power to their monarchy (and this concept is not fully explained other than virgins amply power--how?) and are vying for the throne.I would've liked to have seen more plot twists, actual content, and wiser decisions.
